Dietitian Support That Fits Around You

Managing meals and nutrition needs to be taken more seriously as we age, especially when health changes start happening.

Whether it's fatigue, loss of appetite, a chronic condition, or just not knowing what to cook anymore, it can feel like too much to sort out alone.

That’s where dietitian support through your Home Care Package can really make a difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my Home Care Package to see a dietitian?

Yes, you can!

If you’ve got funding in your Home Care Package for allied health, you can absolutely use it to see a dietitian. We’ll help you check what level of support you’ve got and make sure everything fits within your plan. No need to pay out of pocket if sufficient funding is available.

Do I need a referral to book in?

You don’t need a referral from a doctor to get started, although some people are referred by their GP, care manager, or a family member. If you’re not sure whether it’s the right fit, we’re happy to have a quick chat first.

What kinds of things can a dietitian help with?

Lots of the everyday things.

Dietitians can help with things like appetite loss, weight changes, diabetes, swallowing issues, gut problems, or just getting meals sorted when cooking feels like too much. It's about making eating easier and feeling better day to day.

Do you come to people’s homes?

Yes, we do.

We offer home visits across Melbourne, plus telehealth and some clinic options. If getting out and about is tricky, no problem - we’ll come to you. Or we can do it all online or over the phone if that’s easier.

How do I get started?

Just reach out.

You (or someone supporting you) can give us a call, send a message, or fill out a referral form. We’ll be in touch within a few days, match you with the right dietitian, and get the process started of booking in your first appointment.

Snacks Aren’t ‘Bad’ - They're Just Food

Snacking is completely normal and part of how most people eat.

What matters more is that snacks offer something useful, not whether they’re ‘good’ or ‘bad’.

You Deserve Support That Feels Safe

It’s common for older adults to feel unsure about seeing a dietitian - maybe you’ve had a bad experience in the past, or you’re worried it’ll be all about dieting or judgement. Our team works differently.

You’re not a checklist or a diagnosis. You’re a person. That’s why we focus on building trust, listening carefully, and working alongside you. No pressure, no lectures - just practical, supportive advice.

Using Your HCP for Nutrition Support - Step-by-Step

You can use your Home Care Package to cover the full cost of dietitian support if it’s included in your plan. If it’s not, the team can chat to your case manager or provider to get it added. We’ve worked with most major providers across Melbourne and know how to make it simple.

Finding The Right Dietitian for You

Once you’re referred (by yourself, a GP, a case manager, or a family member), someone from the team will give you a call within a week to book in a time for your first appointment. You’ll be matched with a dietitian who suits your needs and location - someone who gets your situation and can meet you where you’re at.

Appointments are relaxed and flexible. There’s time to talk, ask questions, and work out a nutrition plan together.

Hunger Is Not a Weakness

Hunger is just your body’s way of asking for what it needs—it’s not a failure.

Treating it kindly and responding with food helps more than trying to ignore it.
