Carbs Are Not the Enemy

Carbohydrates are the body’s go-to source of energy for both movement and thinking, and they’re especially important during growth.

Cutting them too low often leads to kids feeling flat, tired, and cranky by the afternoon.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use my NDIS funding for a dietitian?

Yes - most of the time! If food, nutrition, or eating impacts your daily life, health, or independence, your NDIS plan may cover dietetic support under Improved Daily Living (Capacity Building).

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

You don’t need a GP referral to see us through your NDIS plan. You can reach out directly or ask your support coordinator or plan manager to send through a referral. We’ll sort the rest.

What happens in the first session?

We usually start with a chat to get to know you - what you eat, what’s tricky, and what health goals matter to you.

From there, we can do an assessment, make a plan, or start working on things like texture modifications, mealtime routines, or food budgeting. It’s very casual and we go at your pace.

Can you help train my support workers?

Absolutely. We regularly provide training to support workers, family, or SIL staff around mealtime support, tube feeding, food safety, and sensory needs.

This can be included in your plan and often helps everyone feel more confident.

I’ve had a bad experience with food and diets - will this feel like that?

We hear this often. Our approach is the opposite of restrictive or weight-focused. We work with you, not against you, and we never push food plans that don’t suit your life.

There are no harsh food rules, no judgment, and no pressure.

Support for Autism, ADHD, Tube Feeding, and More

We support NDIS participants with all kinds of needs - from restrictive eating and sensory challenges to tube feeding and chronic conditions.

This includes people living with:

Autism, ADHD, or psychosocial disability

Intellectual or developmental disability

Neurological conditions (like MS, Parkinson’s, or brain injury)

Gastrointestinal issues, food intolerances, or swallowing concerns

Learning and cognitive disabilities (e.g. autism spectrum disorder)

Psychiatric and mental health conditions

Acquired Brain Injury

Spinal cord injury

Cerebral Palsy

Spina bifida

Muscular dystrophy

Stroke

Epilepsy

Down Syndrome

You don’t need a formal diagnosis to get started. If food feels like a barrier to your health or independence, we’ll help figure out what’s going on.

Skipping Breakfast? You’re Not Saving Time

Missing breakfast might seem like a shortcut, but it often leads to more hunger later in the day.

Even something quick like toast or yoghurt in the morning can help stop energy crashes mid-morning.

Home Visits, Clinics, or Telehealth - We’ll Work With What Suits You

We make things easy by offering:

  • Home visits across Melbourne

  • Clinic appointments in Dandenong (Fridays) and Glenroy

  • Telehealth sessions if you prefer or live further out

Wherever you’re based, we’ll try to match you with a dietitian who understands your needs and can come to you.
